Is the World Falling Apart?

That's what I wondered from Malawi as I read U.S. news headlines. Fannie May and Freddie Mac, Lehman, A.I.G.... Hurricane Ike. I get the hurricane, but the rest? I'm clueless as to what caused this 'financial crisis' or what the repercussions are. HOWEVER, I read this article from the New York Times this morning, and it helped me understand.... at least a little bit. I recommend it!
